Regency Stays (1788-1820)

In addition, the Hyland House’s collection also includes stays from the Regency Era (1788 – 1820). They are shorter in length with back laced closure ending in 2 short tabs at the back. By this time period clothing fashion had undergone much change, thus affecting the length of the stays. These stays were donated with a tag attached labeled as:

“Buckram Stays of nearly
130 years old. Belonged to
my ancestors.”
